About WFDC > Overview

The Western Foundation Degree Consortium (WFDC) is led by five Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) working in partnership with a number of Further Education Colleges (FECs) and other organisations within the Western region to promote an integrated and collaborative approach to the development of Foundation Degrees.

The WFDC was founded in 2003 and has expanded considerably in the last few years in terms of provision and partnerships. The Consortium organises joint conferences, employer focus groups, and works collaboratively on shared bids (e.g. for HEFCE) as well as sharing good practice. A representative from Foundation Degree Forward (FDF) regularly attends and presentations have previously been given by representatives from the Quality Assurance Agency, Sector Skills Councils and JISC Regional Support Centre.

The Consortium also convenes a small sub-group to consider various quality issues surrounding Foundation Degrees. Membership of this Quality Group consists of representatives from the HEIs and partner colleges.
